Good, but frustrating controls

I have used one of these for over a year and like it for its very fast heating up, low power compared to normal hobs (I have solar panels) and ability to be plugged into a normal power outlet. However, I swear at the designer, who surely has never cooked, every time I use it! Press 'up' and it goes straight to full power - great, no need to step up through all the settings. Or press 'down' and it goes to 1, allowing you to then step up. But when your pan boils on 8, and you really want to go straight to 1 for a simmer you have to step down a press at a time seven times (it doesn't even repeat automatically if held)! It would be so easy to improve on this. If only it simply cycled round, from 8 to 1, 1 to 8 the problem would be solved, but it doesn't. Or holding up and pressing down could set 1,but it doesn't. To add to the annoyance it beeps at you loudly at every press (and at switch-on the beep is a horrible shriek that changes pitch). Also, the lowest setting is rather a fierce simmer, a common problem with most induction hobs I think. Below about 5 it cycles on and off, but because of the instant nature of the heat this results in a simmer that bubbles and stops. Lower settings and faster cycling should have been provided (again I think many induction hobs fail here).

USA Voltage - Hertz Issue

I purchased this unit without noticing that it is 50 instead of 60 Hertz and am hoping it can still be safely wired into my USA electrical panel for use. I thought about cutting off the plug and installing a 240volt plug commonly used here, but am not sure how to connect the various parts to the legs in the panel. I found a conversion plug that will go into a standard 240 volt receptacle, but I've read that it may not work unless there is something installed to convert from 60 to 50 hertz. Anyone out there who would be willing to help?Thanks,Dale
