An excellent hob but would be better with a frame

Got one last week, -it's great!There are some minus points for any product but so far as I can see induction hobs have only three drawbacks: 1. They're rather more expensive than other hobs; 2. You need magnetic pans; 3.There may be problems if you have a pacemaker.Apart from this they win hands down all the way.We were concerned about controllability (using two touch buttons instead of the traditional knob). We needn't have been. Although the touch buttons take a little getting used to it doesn't take long and the different feel of the controls is well worth not having to clean around knobs.Cooking control is amazingly precise, you turn a pan down to simmer and it responds instantly. What's more you know that when you come back it'll still be simmering just as you left it.The hob top remains perfectly free from burnt-on spills because the hob never gets any hot (other than the heat which it gets from having a hot pan sitting on it).One point relating to this particular hob. It has no frame. I feel that this may prove to be a significant disadvantage and could lead to the edge of the hob becoming chipped -particularly with the heavy Le Creuset pans which we sometimes use. We haven't had any problems but we're fairly careful and I think there's a definite case for splashing out a little extra for a hob with a stainless steel frame.

Everything I was hoping for!

OK, yes Induction hobs are expensive - the question is are they worth it? In the case of this Exxcel hob from Bosch the answer is a resounding YES.After my Gas hob died and having reading all the pros and cons of induction heating I figured I would make the jump to the 'new thing' and after it has arrived and has been in for a while I am very glad I did.The hob is very nice looking when installed, and I feel the lack of a frame adds to the effect. As with all induction hobs heating is very fast on stainless steel cookware and the pan remains at a constant heat because the heat is induced in the pan not conducted from the hob.Far from being difficult to control this is very simple with numbers going from 1 to 10 and ever a '.' to denote half way between (i.e. 3, 3., 4). If the pot/pan is removed and not replaced the ring in question turns off saving energy. If a hob is off but is still hot an H appears to warn you, this changes to a lower case h as it cools.The hob does not come with a plug but once one was wired up it works off a normal socket and does not need direct wiring to the mains (be aware by law the socket needs to be able to be turned off directly though most can be)In summary it looks great, the rings are well placed so you are not fighting for pan space and it is easy to control once you remember not to use it the same way as an old gas or electric hob. Oh, and with something like Hob Brite it is also very easy to clean!My single complaint is that no one told me about these sooner!

The Bosch induction hob is elegant and efficient, an excellent way to cook. As with all induction cooking, it is important to have suitable (magnetic) pots and pans. The Bosch induction hob is intuitive to operate and has safety features (such as warnings that an area is still hot and a child safety lockout). Cooking is very quick, with changes to heat settings almost instantaneous, unlike conventional electric hobs.
