To plumb or not to plumb?

Debated whether to go for plumbing or not but we're perfectly happy with the LG. The water container holds plenty of water so it's not different from having a Britta jug in the fridge.The capacity on the product is very good although the shelves aren't as big due to the size of the door capacity. This makes it slightly awkward for longer products which is probably the only downside I can see for the LG.Kids love the ice/water dispenser and the door capacity is ideal for holding kids products so they don't rummage around in the main compartments.Overall, very pleased.

I've owned this fridge/freezer for about 3 months now so thought I'd post a summary of my experiences. I would have bought it from Amazon but instead found a coupon from a well-known "astronomical" retailer that made them a little cheaper. It was replacing a 14 year old 600mm wide Scandinova analogue fridge/freezer (F/F) so that's mainly what I'm comparing it with.Pros:* Very quiet - it kind of whistles/whines but isn't very noisy really (certainly compared to my old F/F which had the traditional compressor pump whirring/rattles). The only thing that is noisy is the water pump when dispensing chilled water or replenishing water for making ice cubes.* It was the narrowest "Euro" sized (900mm wide) side-by-side F/F I could find (I was tight on space).* Plenty of fridge capacity - the shelves are deep and quite wide apart and we didn't have any trouble storing food over Christmas.* The freezer isn't quite so big but the narrow, deep shelves, as well as storage bins in the door, make it quite easy to find frozen food.* Bright inside lights - not LED but very white.* Energy efficient - according to the label (not measured yet) it will use about 1/3 less electricity than the older, smaller F/F it replaced.* Open door alarm - if you've ever left the freezer door ajar by mistake only to find the contents melting by morning, you'll appreciate the door open beeper (which sounds after a minute or so).Cons:* The display only seems to show the set temperatures, not the actual ones. Of course when everything is working fine they will be roughly the same, but I would really like to see what the actually temperatures are, especially following a power cut. It seems an oversight to me that you can't press a button to see the actual values, especially as, according to the brochure, it monitors several of them.* There's no option to use plumbed-in water. If you already have it available (we had it put in when we renovated the kitchen) then it's annoying that you have no option but to use the tank.* The top of the unit is a bit messy - it's actually lower than the door top, but has a kind of raised plastic cover in the centre which means storing things on top is not quite so easy.Other comments:* The "shine steel" finish is a kind of lacquered stainless steel on the door. It is a little darker than normal stainless steel but doesn't seem out of place with our stainless cooker. The sides are actually painted dark grey (presumably for economy) but seem to match quite well - we have one side on show (with the usual collection of fridge magnets) and it looks fine.* Looking at the back of the unit I actually think the water pump/tank could relatively easily be bypassed and disconnected so I may well be able to plumb it into a filtered cold supply at some point - this would invalidate the warranty of course!Overall I think it is a reasonably priced, modern fridge/freezer that would suit a small-medium family. It just has a couple of niggles that stop me giving it 5 stars.
