Amazing wash and spin performance and very very quiet.

I have always had lower end washing machines mainly from Whirlpool and Hotpoint, but when my last Hotpoint machine gave up two weeks after the 5 year extended warranty ran out, I decided that I would look at more expensive and hopefully longer lasting machines.After doing a lot of research I had narrowed my search down to either a mid range Bosch or LG machine, or a really expensive Miele one. In the end I opted for the LG machine on the grounds of the very good customer reviews I found by searching the internet.I've had the machine a few weeks now and I am really pleased with the purchase. The machine feels solidly built. It weighs a ton when compared to the old Hotpoint machine it replaced. Things like the door hinge being made of solid metal makes the machine feel like it has been designed to last for years. All the controls also have a quality feel to them - they move so smoothly and precisely.The washing performance is a revelation when compared to the old machine. Clothes come out smelling so fresh! The whole house ends up smelling like fabric conditioner when you take a wash out of the machine.Spin performance is also pretty amazing. Considering this is a 1400 rpm machine and the old Hotpoint it replaced was 1600 - clothes actually come out noticeably drier than before.The steam refresh function works very well too, taking only 20 minutes to refresh up to three items. Depending on what you wash it comes out very slightly damp and only needs a quick 10 minutes in the tumble drier before wear.Lastly, one thing that was often mentioned on other reviews was how quiet all LG Direct Drive machines are. I can now confirm that this is true. The machine is pretty much silent during the wash cycle and just purrs even when spinning at maximum speed - it is also incredibly smooth.Overall: 5 stars! - I have no hesitation in giving the full five stars. With its A+++ energy rating, lower than average water consumption (important if like me you are on a water meter), the whole machine exudes a feeling of quality. It also comes with a full two year warranty and a 10 year warranty on the Direct Drive motor.

The answer in my case is when the product is replaced by another model.I ordered on 6th January and delivery was on the 19th. A long time to wait with out a washing machine.How I loathe the launderette culture!The product had a large dent by the door so iimmediately I emailed the company and heard nothing. On the Monday (23rd) I rang them and they eventually sent me an email form which I filled in. Still no response.After 2 or 3 phone calls on 25th They said that they didn't have a replacement as did not LG. (No more in the country). They offered me a 9kg model without the steam wash option which I was quite looking forward to.I decided to accept this as the launderette culture was getting to me and the costs were mounting.The higher capacity machine has a higher list price.The machine LG F1480fd duly arrive on the 26th and all was well.So this is a review for this machine.Operation quiet. Noisy water fill with the water turning on and off a few times at the start of the cycle.Washing performance mixed. Stains don't seem to come out as well as our previous machine a Hoover. Use nearly twice as much wash powder as before.It does look elegant. Getting used to the programmes will take a time. When the delay is set the timer doesn't say how long the programme is. As most of my washing is done at night I never know when the end time should be.So nice machine LG. I hope it lasts longer than my Hoover (4 years)I acually paid less for this machine than the hoover with extra warranty.Would I recommend this machine. Jury's out. Time will tell, but quite possibly yes.
